Student Assessment
Objective, Goal and Student Assessment
1. An initial interview with the prospective student is required.
– OBJECTIVE AND GOAL OF THE INTERVIEW:
The initial interview is used to try to establish an initial rapport with the student and to develop an understanding of the student’s personality and to develop an understanding of the student’s problem areas.
– INITIAL COMPETENCY TESTING
A competency test will be given to the prospective student so that I may objectively determine the mathematical weaknesses of the student.
When the weaknesses are identified, I will develop a customized course of study which will help the student master the essential concepts and skills which are necessary for the student to maintain academic excellence.
– ESTABLISHING RAPPORT
In order to be as effective as possible, the tutor must be able to develop a good rapport with the student and he/she must be able to relate with the student on the student’s level.
Cohesive rapport and effective communication are 99% of the battle. The tutor must not only be a teacher, but he/she must be an outstanding mentor, counselor, psychologist, and FRIEND.
The tutor must be able to develop a trust between himself and the student.
Only then can real progress be made.
When the student trusts the instructor, he/she feels safe to take risks. He/she is not afraid to make mistakes with the instructor because the student knows that the instructor will not be demeaning.
The student knows that the instructor will help the student to try to learn from his/her mistakes. That is teaching an important life lesson. We must all learn from our mistakes.
